A parent’s Transgender Journey: A Mothers Love Can Move Mountains
Parenting is a tough job that comes with its share of challenges. Sometimes, when our children are going through a difficult time or struggling in some way, we can feel like we’ve failed as parents. As a mother, I was raised to believe that there was only one way to raise my kids and anything outside of that norm was not acceptable. So, when my son told me that he no longer identified as male and wanted to be called “they, them”, it was a shock. I was worried and scared, wondering if I had done something wrong as a mother and how I could “fix” my child.
But through a lot of prayer, research, and love, I came to accept and support my child as they are. It was not an easy journey, but it taught me a lot about myself and my child. Love is the key to any relationship, especially between a parent and child. When we love and support our children unconditionally, we give them the gift of acceptance and help them become the best version of themselves. I hope that my journey can help other parents who may be going through similar situations and equip them with the knowledge and understanding they need to support their children.
Love conquers all and there is no greater love than the love a parent has for his/her child.
