For some parents, it has always been obvious that gender was an issue for their child. For others, it came as a surprise, something they never saw coming. But one day, the words “Mom, Dad, I’m trans” became a reality.
The truth is that diversity is the rule in nature, not the exception. Being trans is simply another of the beautiful expressions of human existence. So, what’s the problem? Misinformation, disinformation, and fear. Hatred has infiltrated every corner of social life, spreading the false narrative that being trans is unnatural.
The media plays its part, often depicting trans lives as broken, tragic, or immoral.
I even fell for it when I was younger! I always knew I was a girl, but the grotesque depictions I saw led me to believe I had nothing in common with the trans people I saw on screen. That left me feeling lost and confused. If I wasn’t trans, then what was happening to me? So, I stayed silent, curled up in a ball, and did nothing about it.
What changed? Two things: community and education. When I was a kid, there was no internet. I didn’t trust anyone enough to tell them how I felt. My isolation was devastating.
Trans kids and families are at exponentially greater risk when they don’t have access to gender-affirming education and a supportive community. But the good news is that everything improves when they do. I’ve seen parents completely shift their perspective in just minutes after joining our community. It happens every time.
I remember a particular parent meeting where I was invited to speak. I shared my story—the challenges, the victories, and the resilience that defines trans people. Before my talk, we welcomed a new member: a mother who had just found out her child was trans. She couldn’t stop crying. She had been fed so much misinformation about what it means to be trans that she felt like she was losing her child, as if they had died. It was heartbreaking.
But then, other parents shared their experiences. These weren’t families in mourning—they were parents celebrating their children, proud and full of love. The mom must have wondered, What’s going on? She had likely been told that being trans was a tragedy. Yet, here were real families, thriving, happy, and supporting one another.
That meeting changed her. By the end, she stood up again to speak, and this time, she was smiling. She said, You people are saving lives. Sure, I’m still worried—the world out there can be cruel to trans people. But today, you’ve shown me the possibilities for my child and for my family. I never imagined that trans people are living normal, happy lives—having dreams, working hard, answering hate with love, and being awesome! But now I see it with my own eyes: my child can grow up as a perfectly adapted person and live a fulfilling life. That is very different from the horror story I was told!
That was a couple of years ago. Today, things are more challenging than ever with the rise of anti-trans rhetoric. But here’s the reality: almost 10% of people in the U.S. identify as LGBTQ+. When you add in their families, allies, and those who believe in basic human rights, we are a powerful force.
Imagine what we could achieve if we stood together, united in support and solidarity. We don’t have to face this alone.
Joining a community of experts, parents, and trans people can help in so many ways:
- Save time and stress by getting answers from people who’ve been through it.
- Connect with others who understand what you’re going through and can offer real, lived advice.
- Make informed decisions about your child’s journey with expert guidance.
- Build a team of professionals to support your child’s transition.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and policies.
- Become an ally and advocate to help make the world a safer place for trans people.
I know how overwhelming this journey can feel at first. But trust me when I say that community makes all the difference. It can turn fear into hope, confusion into clarity, and isolation into belonging.
That’s why we created our paid membership community—a space where parents, allies, and trans people can come together, share knowledge, and support each other in real, meaningful ways.
If you’re looking for a place where you and your family can find guidance, understanding, and a network of people who truly get it, we invite you to join us. Because, remember—we are better together.
