Change is a universal part of the human experience, but accepting change can sometimes be very difficult. In this session, Sam(Sarah) and Susan Wolfe share their journeys with self-acceptance, both as a transgender person and a parent of a transgender person, and share passages from their upcoming co-authored memoir about navigating Sam(Sarah)’s transition. We’ll discuss what supporting someone through such a big change can look like, what strategies worked for this parent and child, and answer your questions in an open conversation.

About the Presenters:

Sam(Sarah) Wolfe is a transgender writer and presenter based in Seattle, Washington, and a community manager for TransFamily Alliance. She’s currently writing a book with her mother about their experiences navigating her transition. Sam loves storytelling, long walks, and animals. When she’s not on the TransFamily Alliance Member Network, Sam is usually reading, updating her blog, or planning the next tabletop RPG she’s running for her friends. She’s also a huge anime fan, but she tries her best not to overwhelm people with that interest. https://samwolfeisalive.com/

Susan Wolfe, an award-winning author and community leader, is a biographer and author of 10 published books. When her adult son came out as trans, there was no roadmap—just shock, fear, and a thousand questions. BEING SAM(SARAH)’S MOM: WHEN SOMEONE YOU LOVE COMES OUT AS TRANS (working title) is the rigorously honest memoir, in process, that she and her daughter wrote, capturing the transgender journey from two perspectives: a mother learning to let go and a daughter learning to become. Susan  lives in Palo Alto, California, with her life partner and their 15-year-old dog. When she is not at the computer keyboard, she enjoys hiking, Pilates, and nurturing friendships. https://www.susanwolfestoryguide.com/
