When my trans son shared his gender identity with my wife and me, his pronouns weren’t the only thing that changed. This is the story of how his process of constructing his identity as a trans man was reflected in my own academic career.
To better understand my son’s masculinity, I embarked on a path of exploration into what it means to be a man, the alternatives to hegemonic masculinities, and how positive masculinities identities are represented in artificial intelligence models. But above all, it´s the story of how I have gradually deconstructed my own masculinity as a way to support my son on his journey of self-discovery.
