Now more than ever, we need ally voices for transgender equality and inclusion. For trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive youth in particular, safe and supportive spaces built by allies can be literally lifesaving.
Many well-meaning allies want to turn their allyship into action but simply don’t know how. This presentation will give allies the tools to support the trans people in their lives and take an active part in moving society toward the acceptance, inclusion, and celebration of transgender individuals.
In this session, participants will:
- Explore what allyship is and is not
- Receive multiple ideas to turn allyship into action, including real-life examples
- Get tips on taking action safely
- Be challenged to choose at least one small action to support trans individuals
About the Presenter:
Mandy Giles (she/her) is the parent of two transgender young adults and the founder and CEO of Parents of Trans Youth, a social impact business providing learning, support, and community to caregivers of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse kids and young adults. She has been heavily involved in advocacy work since 2021 and has testified before the Texas Legislature dozens of times. Mandy is a past president of PFLAG Houston and the recipient of the Equality Texas 2025 Business Champion Award.
